Has it really been almost a year since I posted last??  Really?  Am I that much of a slacker?  Wait, I probably shouldn't ask that question.

To update a bit, I'm in my fourth quarter at the Art Institute.  Up days, down days, days when I have 5 minutes in the morning to get ready, get my kid ready and head out the door (*ahem* like this morning)  My days don't typically end until midnight or so.  Feels like I'm always on the go.

I've been pulling in more custom work and contract work, as well as holding down an additional part time job in the evenings.  So...all that said I don't have much time to dork around online.  This weekend I'm planning to shoot a few pieces in the fashion line I've been working on for the last several months.  I'll try to remember to add those photos here as well as on my business page on Facebook.   Exciting things are happening - just verrrrryyyyy slloooowwwwly.

That's about all I have time to jot down today.  On to my next class :)

One Step Closer

Monday or Tuesday I should hear whether or not I've been accepted at the Art Institute of Colorado.
I'm nervous, excited, extatic, scared, and don't know what to expect...I can only hope that this is a good decision for my future - it has to be.

Sewing has been going well - I'm finally only about a week and a half out on turnaround, so that's good.   I'm meeting more fantastic clients and feel lucky to have them.  I've started advertising on Craigslist again, and have generated some more business there.  So long as I can keep all my ducks in a row, (knock on wood), it should be enough to pay all my bills OR put me through school at the very least.  Monday I will be looking more into affiliate marketing to see if that would be a profitable way to support myself as well.

Dovetail Threads is going back to School!

Almost done with my weekly plus customers.  I've had a little bit of repeat business from that, but not enough to sustain or grow my business much beyond advertising on Craigslist.  I'm still struggling to make a living and running out of options because my skillset and networking is so limited.  Which brings me to my other bit of news...

I left my other job to pursue another opportunity that lasted, oh, about a week and a half...So  I'm currently looking for another job and decided to go back to school.

I toured Art Institute of Colorado last week and was blown away by the program, the support, and the pricetag (but I'm trying not to focus on that).  The program is very thorough and includes many business and marketing classes so that I can realize my dream of opening up a storefront business sometime in 2015.  School starts October 3rd and I'll update soon.

Holy Shizisnit!!!

Three days into my coupon deal with Weekly Plus and I already have 97 buy-ins!  I never expected this much success with it and it has proven to be an awesome resource for getting my name out and a chance to really prove myself in this unique market.  My phone has been ringing off the hook since yesterday

I still have 2 jobs to finish up and get out the door, 2 jobs waiting to be picked up, and have taken in 2 jobs from the coupon deal with 1 more being picked up tonight.

EEK!  Many many thanks to all my new clients for the business and everyone at Weekly Plus who helped put together my ad - it is just the boost my business needed!

Been too busy to post!

Business and life have been crazy busy!  I've been blessed with plenty of business, meeting lots of new wonderful interesting clients who bring me challenges that I really enjoy every week.  I've consistently had 3-5 jobs on my plate at one time and as long as I have enough energy drinks to keep me wired, I can be ready to handle anything that's thrown at me!

On a personal note, I am really enjoying my new Droid phone (Yes, Michelle has entered into the world of smart-phones).  Its proven to be a VERY useful business tool and helped me keep in touch with clients/potential clientele, organize my online presence much better, and tie everything together so neatly.

I'm very excited to share some new developments on the horizon!  The first is I will be running a coupon deal very soon through an online discount site.  Don't know if I have closure to share with whom, so I will keep that under wraps for now.  But let me just say that the gals that have been working with me, prodding me, and been patient with me and my procrastinating patootie on this whole deal have been most wonderful in giving me options and making sure I see success and expanded business from this!

Second development:  I have made contact with a shop owner who will be opening a local boutique sometime in May/June who is excited about featuring/consigning some of my own designs in her shop.  The theme of her shop fits right in with my passions as a designer and is a very good fit for my work.  In the meantime, I'm slowly but surely working on a Springwear line of dresses to display and sell in her shop.  More on that later.

That's all for now.  Have to return to the Bridal Gown-zilla currently taking up my whole living room.  I already have the under-layers hemmed and 4 tulle petticoats trimmed underneath of it which resulted in about a mile and a half worth of 4" tulle.  True story - I ran to the bank for 10 minutes and when I got back, my wonderful hunk-of-a-boyfriend had tied it all together and strung it all across the living room creating a festive web of white above my head : )

Stay lighthearted and creative friends!

3 jobs down...

I have 3 jobs completed, one is out the door, and a bunch more still to come.

Haven't had time to call back the shops I contacted last week.  Too busy with kids and other work.  But this is a good thing :)
